Vintage Charm Abounds in Rose Isle

Rose Isle is a neighborhood in Orlando, Florida, with a rich and unique history. The neighborhood was initially founded in the 1920s by William C. Rose, who named it after his wife, Isabella. For many years, Rose Isle was considered to be one of the most exclusive neighborhoods in Orlando. It was home to some of its most prominent residents, including business owners and politicians. In recent years, however, this exclusive enclave has been transformed into an economically diverse and multicultural community that is home to people from all walks of life.

Native American Influence in Rose Isle

The area now known as Rose Isle was originally inhabited by Native Americans who lived along the shores of Lake Eola. These natives built their homes in what would become Rose Isle Park on today’s East Orange Street between Central Boulevard and Rosalind Avenue (now called Magnolia). Today, there are still remnants of these native dwellings scattered throughout the neighborhood. One such structure can be found at 1619 Rosalind Avenue in front of the historic Rosenwald Schoolhouse; another stands near City Hall South Parking Garage (formerly Memorial Stadium) just south of Downtown Orlando on Division Street between Hughey Avenue and Parramore.

Business Abounds in Rose Isle

In 1875, a man named James H. Gamble purchased the land that would become Rose Isle from the Seminole Indians. In 1890, he opened Gamble House, which is now recognized as Florida’s oldest continuously operating hotel. In 1920, William C. Rose purchased several acres of land on East Orange Street from James H. Gamble and founded the neighborhood that would come to be known as Rose Isle. Mr. Rose was originally from Baltimore and had moved to Orlando in 1913 to start a new business. He was an entrepreneur and had a keen eye for real estate development. He quickly recognized the area’s potential and began to build homes there for his friends and family.

Rose Isle Today

In recent years, however, Rose Isle has undergone a dramatic transformation. The once-exclusive enclave is now home to people from all walks of life and cultures. This diversity is what makes Rose Isle such a unique and special place. As a result, the neighborhood is constantly evolving and growing, and it promises to be an exciting place to live for years to come.
