In 1875, a man named James H. Gamble purchased the land that would become Rose Isle from the Seminole Indians. In 1890, he opened Gamble House, which is now recognized as Florida’s oldest continuously operating hotel. In 1920, William C. Rose purchased several acres of land on East Orange Street from James H. Gamble and founded the neighborhood that would come to be known as Rose Isle. Mr. Rose was originally from Baltimore and had moved to Orlando in 1913 to start a new business.
